When I arrived in Rochester I had lived in downtown Chicago, a small town in upstate New York, the suburbs of Boston and Den Haag in the Netherlands. I was weary of making new friends only to say goodbye a few years later but, one day I made my way to a Newcomers coffee. I found myself being welcomed by Newcomers members everywhere from Wegmans to Blockbusters to the YMCA. In the past six years I have had the honor of meeting the greatest friends of my life. I have learned to bowl: I stink but look forward to getting together at Bowl a Roll each week for a little lunch, lots of laughs and hopefully some good “pin action”. I learned to row on a crew team: We even rowed in a regatta on the canal and managed to come in second to last place; but what a great experience. I play Bunco each month and look forward to seeing my friends, throw the dice and having lots of laughs. During the winter months I ski every week with my best friend at Bristol Mountain. All of these experiences and friendships I credit to Newcomers Club. Whether your interest is book club or ballroom dancing Newcomers Club has it. If you have a hobby that we do not offer we have the avenue for you to connect with others that share in your interest. Newcomers Club gives you the opportunity to learn about Rochester, connect with people who have similar interests and simply make friends. Join now and let the fun begin. Mary Dobler |
